(CMR) Well placed Cayman Brac sources have shared that 54-year-old Deputy District Commissioner Mark Tibbetts Jr., JP has been hand-picked by MP Moses Kirkconnell to succeed him as the representative for Cayman Brac West and Little Cayman.

Tibbetts has not made any formal announcements but it is rumored that he has put in his notice of retirement from the civil service and has to wait until his official retirement date before he can indicate his intentions. He would be returning under the option of having served as a civil servant for 33 1/3 years.

Tibbetts has been Deputy District Commissioner since 2007 for Cayman Brac and was the Masters of Ceremonies for the National Heroes’ Day ceremony earlier on Saturday. He has an extensive history with the Customs Department where he served as Deputy Works Manager.

He also owns several businesses including Eats N Treats and L&M Super Store in Bight, Cayman Brac. He also developed several properties through is a development company T&B Development. They were the developers for Cayman Breakers and Kings Point condos on the South Side of Cayman Brac.

He is a former UDP member and is married with one daughter.

It has been rumored from last years that Deputy Leader MP Kirkconnell would be retiring from politics. In recent time some business sales and movements have appeared to further confirm his intention of retiring from political life. A well-placed business rumor has indicated that he sold his interest in Brac Informatics Centre, an insurance company  and Brac Power & Light. He also bought out the partner interest in his real estate company Island Realty.
