JetBlue stewardess who lied about being kidnapped in Jamaica fired

Feb 17, 2021

(CMR) A JetBlue stewardess who lied about being kidnapped in Jamaica has been fired.

Kalina Collier tested positive for the Covid-19 virus when she arrived in Jamaica a few weeks ago and was placed in isolation in keeping with Jamaica’s Covid-19 prevention protocols.

However, in an attempt to avoid quarantine, Collier, an American of Jamaican descent,  took to social media and claimed she had been kidnapped.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said Collier was at no time in any danger during her 14-day quarantine at a Jamaican hotel.

On Tuesday, JetBlue said Collier was no longer employed with the airline.

“We hold each JetBlue crewmember to the highest standards when it comes to personal integrity. After an investigation, the crewmember in question is no longer with us,” Derek Dombriowski, manager of Corporate Communications at JetBlue said in a statement.

Collier’s claim that she was being held against her will outraged many Jamaicans. Several people overseas had called for travelers to boycott Jamaica in protest of her alleged kidnap.

“We continue to offer our apologies for the frustration and concern this incident has caused and reiterate our confidence in the health protocols Jamaica has put in place,” Dombriowski added.

Collier, who completed her quarantine, left Jamaica on Sunday following a brawl involving her mother at the Sangster International Airport.
