Anthony Eden to hand over political reins to his eldest son – Malcolm Eden

Dec 3, 2020

(CMR) Malcolm Anthony Eden (45), the son of long-serving Savannah MP Anthony Samuel Eden, has declared his intention to run in the upcoming general election on May 26, 2021 taking over the reins from his father who has served in politics for 28 years.

There had been speculation for some time now that Eden intended to retire and his son run in his seat. In fact, back in September CMR made reference to the rumor in a previous article. It became official today after the younger Eden placed an advert in the local newspaper today.

Malcolm Eden is the eldest son of Anthony Eden and works as a part-time real estate agent at Trident Properties (Cayman Islands) Ltd. His online biography says that he has worked in real estate since the 1990s. He holds an MBA in finance and previously worked at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority until January 2008. At the time of his departure, he was head of the Banking Supervision Division for two years.

Eden was appointed as head of banking in September 2005 following successive promotions within the Banking Supervision Division, including to the post of Deputy Head of Banking in 2003. He had been with the Authority since its inception, having joined its predecessor the Financial Services Supervision Department (FSSD) of the Cayman Islands Government in 1996 as a junior analyst.

Malcolm Eden is also the Managing Director at Audiophile, a high-end home automation and electronics store. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman and past president.

Eden is married to Jessica Eden and has three children.

Thus far only two candidates have declared their intention to run in the district of Savannah.
